Allan, as we are coming to the end of 1995 and our construction contract, my wife and I wanted to take this opportunity of thanking you most sincerely for your help and guidance through this complicated and detailed project. We have come to recognize your professionalism and respect your talent and particularly the detailed and methodical way in which you have tackled every aspect of this project. I think you can be well proud of the quality and detail in our new home. We have also immensely enjoyed our personal association, which we obviously look forward to continuing. Allan and I worked together with my interior designer to create my new city home after I sold my suburban home years ago. It was a huge change in my life and one in which Allan helped smooth the transition. His insightful questions and attention to detail throughout the design and construction phases of the project resulted in not only an elegant and comfortable residence for me but also a deep friendship that continues to this day.

HIGHLAND PARK EXTERIOR FACADE TRANSFORMATION

Our builder/developer provided us with a new house that has a wonderful plan and interior finishes. However, we were disappointed with the exterior appearance, which was a white box that had no character, charm, or street appeal. We retained Allan Grant to design a welcoming and appealing façade that would fit in with the other homes in our neighborhood. Allan presented several front exterior studies, which we discussed together and refined until we achieved the aesthetic and function we wanted. Not only are we now proud of the exterior of our home, with its front columned entry porch, shuttered window, and French door railings, but our neighbors have not stopped complimenting us on the dramatic improvement. Allan is a creative architect who is easy to work with and who enjoys sharing his talents for the benefit of his clients.

CHICAGO CONDOMINIUM KITCHEN REMODELING

Allan and I explored new kitchen layouts for my city condominium apartment. I found him to be a patient and careful listener who then presented different approaches and design ideas for my consideration. we discussed pros and cons for various solutions concerning storage, appliance locations, functionality and aesthetics that were specific to my personal preferences. While I ultimately decided not to proceed with the kitchen improvements, electing to sell my home and move to another, I found Allan’s assistance and insights to be helpful in coming to my decision to move. I would work with Allan again when the need may arise and would recommend him to anyone considering remodeling or otherwise improving their home.

CHICAGO TOWNHOME REMODELING

Allan has been a pleasure to work with on all our projects, which include a full kitchen remodeling, several bathroom remodelings, converting one bedroom into a paneled office and another into an exercise room with the occasional guest accommodations, the master bedroom suite remodeling, and the most recent powder room remodeling. Our kitchen had been a completely enclosed space that we wanted opened to the adjacent dining room for a view of the park across from our home. Allan’s suggestion to convert our formal dining room space into a highly functional and versatile “family center” that incorporated our new kitchen, a sitting area, built-in storage with panel tv and display, and an expandable dining table, created a new way for us to live in our home that we thoroughly enjoy. The unusual challenge which we presented to Allan was that all our projects had to be started and completed, including finish painting, while we were traveling away from home. Allan was able to organize and coordinate our projects with the contractors he recommended so that each project was completed within our established time frames. Allan is a highly detailed, organized, and talented architect, who listens carefully to us, has great insights and suggestions for our consideration, and whose expertise in the field of interior design, as well as architecture, has benefitted us not only with architectural details but also with furniture and art placement, color and material selections, and great lighting. I cannot imagine working with any other architect for planning any remodeling work in my home.

CHICAGO JOHN HANCOCK CENTER COMBINED CONDOMINIUM APARTMENTS

My interior design firm, ASI Interiors, inc, collaborated with residential architecture firm Allan J. Grant and associates for a project that combined two condominium apartments in Chicago’s John Hancock Center, resulting in a spacious and accommodating three-bedroom residence with expansive entertaining spaces. Allan grant’s understanding and sensitivities to furniture layout and coordination of architectural design elements with interior design concepts allowed our firm to achieve the level of comfort, aesthetics, and sophistication that our client required. Unlike many architects who take an adversarial approach to interior design professionals, Allan understands and appreciates the value of an architect/interior designer partnership in achieving extraordinary results for our mutual clients.
